Floor Pouring

We poured the basement floor on Saturday. It was a great day.

First thing in the morning the cement truck got stuck. It was a crazy time. We had to get the four wheel drive in order to get it out. It worked out real well in the end.

Thanks to Brett M. for the pictures! He took some great shots that day. I wish I could post them all but it would be a huge page then.

Tin

We're putting tin on the roof. It looks good so far. I wasn't expecting it to be this blue but I think it is going to be a good colour.

Roof Pictures

Here's some pictures of the roof and also the outside of the house after we did some work on Saturday. We have finished sheeting most of the main roof. We just have the one gable over the kitchen to finish. It was such a blessing to have a bunch of guys come and give us a hand again on Saturday. It's amazing how quickly things get done we people all work together and pitch in. The house now has the shape it is going to have once things are completed. It's exciting to see the frame go up. It looks like things are going quickly but I know we have a long ways to go.

In-floor heat

We had a work bee today and had the in floor heat pipes installed. The pipes are made out of kytec. They were a little stiff to work with but we used styrofoam insulation for under the pipes and also some plastic clips that held the pipes in place. In the end the result was quite nice.

Here's a pictures of the guys working on the floor

Here's a picture of the finished product.

Trusses

I've taken some shots of the trusses today. You can see that most of the roof skeleton is in place. Steve would like to start putting the sheeting on tomorrow sometime. We would like to have tin on the roof by the end of this week. I spent the evening with Bob T. doing some plumbing. We're getting the drains in place for the basement and also getting things in place for our sandpoint well. I'll put a link on the sidebar for some information regarding sandpoint wells. Very informative. Also, I'm going to put a link on for the metal (tin) roofing.

Pics from Wednesday Last week...

Here's some pictures from Wednesday last week. I didn't get a chance to upload them until today. It's exciting to see the progress. I'm going drop by after work today and check out how things are going. Steve has informed me that the trusses are being put into place.

Our Contractor

Steve

Cody

I took some pictures yesterday afternoon of our contractor and his assistant. Steve is the one with the great big smile. Cody was a little camera shy and tried to avoid the picture.

Walls are going up...

We went out to the house today to do some work on the plumbing. We took some pictures of the upstairs and the walls that have been built. Steve has indicated that we will be doing some trusses by the weekend. It's exciting to see the house as it is quickly taking shape. I know that once we start doing the plumbing and the wiring things will look like they are progressing at a slower pace even though those things have to be done. Here are the most recent pictures from today!

Screw gun

Here's that screw gun I was talking about. It worked great for putting in the sub flooring. What a great tool. I'll put a link to the manufacturer in the links section of this blog. I wasn't able to get a picture of someone running it because I was at school during the day that they finished the floor.

Arial View

I have an arial view of the land that I picked up off the Agri Maps web site from the Manitoba Agriculture web site. The map shows our quarter section and the bush we have around our house. I've put an arrow on the map showing where the yard site is located. Exciting times!

Snow

We just had a big snowfall. We were out of power for about 6 hours yesterday. I took some pictures of the house in the morning to show the septic and the sub flooring, both of which is finished now.

Floor Joists

At the end of Saturday we had finished the main beam and most of the floor joists. Here are some pictures from that day.

The main beam was put up with 7 strong men pushing, lifting, and pulling. It went into place quite nicely with all those hands helping at once. We were able to start doing some sub flooring. I've been using a great tool that Dad picked up this last year. It's a screw gun with self feeding screws. It does the job about 5 or 6 times as fast as the traditional screw gun and you can stand while you hold the gun and screw in the fasteners for the sub-floor. I'll get a picture of someone running it tomorrow. It's a time saver. Maybe we'll have some walls up tomorrow. We'll have to wait and see.

Basement Building

We're moving on to the next stage of the house. Building the basement itself. I have been blessed with the help with of some of the guys in our church who came out on Saturday and gave us a hand. We have put up the walls during the week and then on Saturday the main beam, most of the floor joists, and some sub-flooring were put in. It's amazing how much work 7 guys can do in a day. I'll upload pictures as they are ready.
